In 1 Samuel 17 we read about David and Goliath, what actually just came straight off the page to me was 1 Samuel 17:28 Eliab, David’s oldest brother. Eliab’s anger grew toward David when he heard what David had said to the others.
David had boldly said in verse above Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
David was stating why should we fear a man that is not in covenant with Elohim Hayyrim (the living God) Eliab even went on to say he knew David’s prideful and disrespectful bold heart is what brought him from the sheep fields to say this. David’s response to Eliab was “Is there not a cause?”
What I really got from this scripture is that even your own family or even the family of God will be used by the enemy to discourage, hurt, and minimize you and your calling. Don’t be surprised. Some of my greatest giants have not been Goliath’s (enemy) but have been right in and through the family of God or people who are in relationships with me (Eliab’s). When this happens, remember David’s response in verse 29 and then action 1 Samuel 17:30 Then he turned from him toward another and said the same thing; and these people answered him as the first ones did.
See sometimes you have to just have to meet your Eliab with a question. Is there not a cause? Then turn from them and toward the calling Jesus has for you, proclaiming Jesus’s gospel and making disciples. They do not understand the training and grooming that has taken place in the field of faith. There will always be the accusers of the brethren. But remember just as David was in the shepherd’s field. God sent a Bear and a Lion for David to slay and retrieve the lamb’s from their mouth’s to train David in courage and strength so he would one day throw a stone in a slingshot that would slay a 9-foot giant and defeat the enemy. So if you find yourself up against a 9-foot giant reflect on the field of faith and what you have learned in those experiences. Were you not victorious? Has God not prepared you already? Why are you still standing there, throw that stone (request) in that slingshot (prayer) and watch that Goliath (enemy) fall to his defeat! Move on into your calling and take what God has called you too even if you do run into some Eliab’s on the way 😉 you can do it! We have the living God on our side! Praise God!
Lord, you have equipped me to take down my Goliath! You have trained and prepared me so that I will be full of courage and strength! Lord, who dares to defy the Living God by standing in your way? Who questions the Lord when He has chosen? Thank you, Lord, for speaking to this wandering heart and giving me faith to push! All glory and honor are yours, Father! In Jesus Name Amen!
